Highlights of Keage Incline
The Keage Incline is an inclined railway built to allow boats traveling through the canal to overcome the approximately 36m difference in height between the Keage boat storage upstream of the canal and the Nanzenji boat storage downstream. At the time, it was the world’s longest inclined railway.
Currently, the rails are preserved. You can walk freely inside the incline, and cherry blossoms on both sides bloom in spring, making it a popular tourist attraction. The cherry blossoms are blooming right up to the railroad tracks, so you can admire the beautiful cherry blossoms up close. It was fun to walk around.
Even when viewed from the bridge near the entrance, the cherry blossoms were spreading directly below, and it was beautiful.
Even when viewed from along the road, the collaboration between the railroad tracks and cherry blossoms was beautiful.
The best time to see cherry blossoms is usually from early to mid-April.
It is crowded during the cherry blossom seasons, so if you visit early in the morning or on weekdays, it will be relatively empty.
